Cable is the agenda for the upcoming Deadpool sequel, there’s a 100% chance that the next installment of Deadpool’s story will be just as good, if not better than the first.. These two iconic characters just go together, and the idea of seeing them begin on a balls to the wall action-packed adventure is exciting.
In a recent discussion with IGN, director Tim Miller and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick talked about Cable, how they intend on bringing him to life on the big screen, and what they are looking for in casting the role.
“There’s a lot about Cable’s history that I like because he’s so intertwined with the world of the X-Men. Why he was put together with Deadpool – other than that he was in a comic that wasn’t selling well and Deadpool was in a comic that wasn’t selling well so they put them together – it’s the same reason we had Colossus; he’s a straight man. And I think Deadpool needs a straight man. Cable is the ultimate, archetypal, silent, strong and cynical warrior, which Deadpool is not.”- Tim Miller
Both Deadpool and Cable are roles that go better when they are combined with other characters, particularly when those other characters are each other. When talking about the kind of actor they need to bring into play Cable, Reese had to say this:
“Strength, gravitas, a purposefulness that Deadpool doesn’t have. Deadpool’s kind of got ADD, and we think of Cable as someone who locks onto something and is going to get that thing solved no matter what.”-Rhett Reese
Wernick added that whoever plays the character must be “physically imposing.” I’m really curious to see who ends up in the role. We’ve overheard names such as Stephen Lang and Jon Hamm thrown around, but I doubt either one of them will get the part. When I hear the term “physically imposing” it makes me think of the build of someone similar to Dwayne Johnson.
Who do you prefer to see take on the role, and what do you think about what Miller said about how he plans to use Cable into the sequel?
