ICP recently participated in a Reddit AMA(Ask Me Anything). In this AMA the Wicked Clowns talk meeting meeting Vince McMahon, Vampiro and Shaggy pissing off Chris Benoit, backlash against their new music and many other topics, below are some of the highlights!
“Vince McMahon famously said in a 1998 AOL chat session, “I love the ICP music,” and “I’ll look forward to personally meeting ICP at SummerSlam. Their very unique and they have a good vibe.”
I couldn’t imagine Vince McMahon listening to hip-hop until the advent of ECW Champion Mr. “Dew Rag” McMahon.
From my understanding, Mr. McMahon has a unique vibe himself. Did your time in WWF/E produce any unusual or entertaining Vince McMahon stories that you’re willing to share?”
yes indeedy. we sat up in the stands just me, J and Vince–that alone was a wig blower. He mustve done his homework on us because he asked us about our Big Grim Tim contest which was a crazy contest we had where you could go camping with one of our crazy bus drivers back in the day. Just him knowing that had my tongue dryer than a crows tongue doing the cinammon challenge. then after that we got no play from vince but it was fucking awesone.–S2D
“On your Jericho podcast you seemed to look back at WCW very fondly. Do you have a favorite story from your time there?
You also seem to be well aware that you polarize people. Is that something that you were always able to handle or did it come with time?”
there were a lot of good times in WCW. in WWE we were kinda took us as a joke and a lot of people didnt like us cuz they didnt think we paid our dues. but WCW boys knew us from ECW and WWE and treated us with mad respect. I have 2 stories. first one, when vampiro was fueding with sting, they had us up on the jumbotron we were supposed to stay on the edge so it was a surprise when we came out to the ring and me and vamp were leaning back against this rig. J was leaning back too but you could clearly see the silhouette of his belly sticking out, so everyone could tell we were back there. The other one was they used to have freestanding square box built in the hallway where you would stand and do promos with Mene Gene. You’d stand there for hours and film a bunch of them. One time Chris Benoit was doing an interview and we were supposed to be up next and Vampiro just started banging on the door as loud as he could, totally interrupting the interview and then me and Vamp bolted as fast as we could, leaving J behind. And then Chris Benoit whipped the door open and totally schooled J because he thought J had done it. –S2D
“I’ve been down with you guys for 16 years now. Being a fairly old school Juggalo I see a lot of hate for your new stuff. I personally like the new Joker’s cards. Missing Link is still in my CD player.
Just wondering if the backlash from older fans that don’t like the new sound…Does it get under your skin, or do you just brush it off?
Also gotta say, the new pic of Skinny J is looking good!”
The new stuff will never be able to compeat with the old stuff because its not just about the music. your also compeating with that guys childhood and the first time he ever heard your shit. the first time he discovered his or her own music or homies or whatever. Thats what the old music means to them. So your new shit usually never gets a fair chance because its just more of the same. You can never compete with the first time regarding anything. Theres always hateregarding the new stuff because it aint the old days anymore. Life aint as fresh as it was when we were young descovering shit for the first time. now we all got bills and responcibilitys and all that shit. Thats why most ninjas always perfer the old shit, it just brings back better feelings than thenew shit for most people. how can the new shit possibly compete?
” First let me say thanks for doing this AMA! Been down for a long time and wanted to ask you guys this personally but….. I love the commentary we get with you guys and Kevin Gill, my question is, how did y’all and KG meet? Also, how did he become the voice of JCW?
we met KG thru doing the backyard wrestling video game. it was at a convention place and we had our own area and KG was talking to J and he just instantly became a homie. he became the voice of JCW cuz he super duper smart mark about wrestling and hes great on the mic. but he started out as a JCW referee. once we knew he was so fresh on the mic, we started doing commentary together. And i’d like to think i’m also the voice of JCW. J/K. — S2D
