Juggalos Have More Fun – That’s Why We’re Hated

Juggalos are far from being the world’s favorite subculture. This has been clear to all of us since the very beginning. What makes that great, however, is that no juggalo in the known universe really cares. We are looked down upon and tossed aside as freaks, losers, and social outcasts. Though when it comes down to it, we are the ones who laugh in the face of mainstream groupies and robots unable to think for themselves. So when someone from outside of our Faygo-soaked world commends us just for being us, there’s really nothing better. Well, except maybe joining in on Faygo Armageddon. To highlight this magnitude of unexpected appreciation that we rarely get, LA Weekly recently posted an article for their “Unpopular Opinion” segment.

Author Nicholas Pell wrote an extremely convincing and flattering piece, shining light on what juggalos consider to be home, known as the Gathering Of The Juggalos. More than that, though, he shows recognition to what this subculture means to us, as well as the fact that despite not considering himself a juggalo, he has love for the music that pulls us all together. One quote that truly sticks with me is this:

“Which I think hits on a big part of why “respectable” middle-class white people love to hate ICP and Juggalos. First of all, they hate that anyone is having more fun than they are. Secondly, they hate that anyone is still capable of having fun without ten layers of ironic separation.”

The rest of the article can be found on LA Weekly’s official website, which is of course a highly recommended read!
