Q & A with Chris Fabritz Fundraising for Flint Water Crisis
MzHollywood and Chris “Mankini” Fabritz
Hey, True Juggalo Family!
I would like to shed some light on what’s going down in Flint, Michigan. Since April 2014, Flint, MI has been in a state of emergency. The drinking water is contaminated with corrosive lead from the pipes in the Flint River. Many of the residents are becoming sick with Legionnaires’ disease and it has already killed 10 people. Currently, there is class action lawsuit against Governor Rick Synder and he promises to fix the problem.
Chris Fabritz aka “Swarley/Mankini” of Rockville, Maryland (Juggalo), started a Fundraiser to support those now affected by this state of emergency.
MzHollywood: Hello Chris or shall I call you “Mankini“? I recently heard that you have been quite busy working on helping the city of Flint, Michigan. What made you decide to act on this issue when you don’t even live in Michigan?
Mankini: You can definitely call me Mankini, I think it’s like official now, haha! Well, a big part of this is the fact that I don’t live in Michigan like you said. I think too many times, we as people only know our world, and what’s directly around us, and that’s not a bad thing. The mainstream media was also very hush hush on this subject for a very long time. These people are human beings, like you and I and every human should have the right clean water, no matter what. The people of Flint are our brothers and sisters, and I felt that people were just brushing them and their tragedy aside. So, I decided to research the issue and make it a mission to help them.
MzHollywood: Is Michigan Governor Rick Snyder the one to blame?
Mankini: For the most part, yes. He knew of the water being unsafe and continued lying to the people of Flint. However, emergency financial managers had been appointed (by Governor Snyder) to the most impoverished cities in Michigan, in an effort to save money and cut costs in those cities. One of those ways to cut costs was to stop getting water for Flint from Lake Huron and start getting it from the Flint river. The move was criticized and frowned upon, as the river was known not to be clean and Flint’s water treatment plant still wasn’t fully up to proper standards. These financial managers had free reign, and ruled without consequence basically, so no one could step in and veto this decision. Governor Snyder and his financial managers are where the blame should be placed.
MzHollywood: Anything else you would like to inform us of? Shout-outs?
Mankini: Just keep an eye for people with too much power, who don’t see too have the public’s interest in mind, these social injustices must not be allowed to happen. Let’s work together in making sure this world is a better place for future generations! I have hopes that we can change the world, for the better, together.
